Red, White & Blue

Happy 4th of July!

I’ve been wanting to make a circle skirt for a while and finally made it with patriotic colors – red, white, and blue.

I followed the tutorial on the Made blog. I was a little apprehensive about making it since it involved math (I stink), but it actually was pretty easy to make.

I made the pattern for a quarter of the skirt with newspaper (the tutorial goes into detail about how to do this).

I folded the fabric (I got 1-3/4 yards) and used the newspaper pattern to cut the fabric.

When I unfolded the fabric, here is the basic shape of the skirt. I bought the polka dot fabric and 3″ wide red striped elastic (so cool!) at a local fabric outlet (Goodville Fabric Outlet) for about $5.

Basically, you just sew the elastic onto the waist of the skirt, then hem the bottom and you’re done. If you’re a beginner at sewing, you must try this!

It’s so easy & fun!

And Avery’s favorite part – it twirls!!

I will be linking to the Pleated Poppy’s “What I Wore Wednesday” linky party.

  1. That looks so great on you! Did you die the waistband red? I made a circle skirt for one of my daughters, I just might have to make one for myself now. 🙂

  2. This is nothing short of amazing. And then I saw it twirls! Even better! 🙂 Thanks for sharing the tutorial. Will definitely have to add this to my to-do list.

  3. I love it and I may just get my mom (the seamtress) to help me make this. We are moving to Costa Rica for a year and skirts are a must have. I live in Lebanon but never heard of the Goodville fabric outlet, but Mom probably knows right where it is.Thanks for sharing and it looks great on you.

  4. STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT. IT'S TOOOO CUTE AND TOOO EASY TO MAKE. *chants to self: "I will not get a sewing machine, I will not get a sewing machine, I will not…."YOU ARE AMAZING MRS. WEAVER.GREAT PICS!!!!! so frame worthy!
